Thu, 19 February 2009 Announcing School Run French - French lessons for children If you've been learning French with Coffee Break French then perhaps it's time for your children or grandchildren to do the same. One of the most common requests we receive is for materials which are aimed at younger learners, so we've come up with School Run French. As parents we often seem to run a taxi service for our children - school, clubs, scouts, football practice, dance classes, and so on. We thought that just as adults can learn in their coffee break, so can children learn at times when they're not doing anything else. And if this time happens to be the morning school run, then some French fun will help to prepare young minds for a productive day at school. Each show lasts just 7 minutes, and combines the presentation of new words and phrases with some interactive audio games: translating against the clock, mind reading, and guessing the word. Like all RLN courses, School Run French is progressive, so children with no French at all can begin at with episode 1. If children are learning French at school already they will benefit hugely from the practice and review provided by the podcasts. SRF is aimed at 7-11 year olds, but in out trials, the materials have also been used very successfully with younger children. We would always suggest that children should listen several times to the one episode before moving on to the next. However, as the course is progressive, each episode builds on what has been covered before, so review is built in to the series. SRF is available now in iTunes and comes in 'packs' of 5 lessons dealing with different topics. The public feed will contain a sample episode of each pack, but the premium version of each pack will contain all five lessons, puzzle sheets for children, notes for parents and a certificate to mark the completion of each unit. For more information about how your children can learn French with School Run French, visit schoolrunlearning.com. Direct download: cbf-announce-090217.mp3 |

Fri, 9 January 2009 Coffee Break French Update - 9 January 2009 An update for our subscribers: There are two things I'd like to tell you about today., The first of these is some good news about CBF. We're back on track and Anna is feeling much better. We've been recording some content for you and the 'new term' will begin on Saturday 17th January when you'll be able to download lesson 41 and start to get back into your French. The new season will really help you build your confidence in the language as we're going to be looking at grammar in more depth. So, next Saturday, 17th January, season 5 of CBF begins. Make sure you stay subscribed to this feed and you'll receive the next lessons automatically. For those of you who have been premium subscribers, we'll be providing information as to how to continue to receive the bonus materials for CBF. We'll put some detailed information in the premium podcast feed during the next week with a step by step guide as to how to get the new materials. The other piece of news I'd like to tell you about today is that we've been working on a new French project over the past year and we're absolutely delighted to announce that it's now ready to see the light of day! Walk, Talk and Learn French is a video podcast which introduces elements of French grammar and vocabulary in a very innovative way. You may remember PB who has featured in a number of episodes of CBF. Well, he brings his inimitable style to WTL as he wanders around the streets of Paris, talking about the language he sees on signs, posters and adverts. If you are lucky enough to be able to travel to the country where the language you are learning is spoken then you can experience this type of immersion as you look around you. However, it's not always possible to travel to the country and experience it for yourself. So, we're bringing these examples of French in use to you, with this new video podcast. WTL can be accessed through the website at walktalkandlearn.com and, as usual, you can subscribe to the podcast in iTunes or by using the links on the website. The weekly video episodes will be delivered directly to your computer or your iPod or iPhone. They're also available to play directly from the website, and there are lesson notes and exercises available too. I've put a couple of promo videos in the CBF feed so hopefully you'll be able to get a feel for what we're trying to bring you with WTL. Direct download: cbf-announce-090109.mp3 |

Mon, 26 November 2007 Radio Lingua Network News: 25 November 2007 Bonsoir, Guten Abend, Buenas tardes, Buona sera! This is Mark from the Radio Lingua Network and I'm here to bring you some of the latest news about our language-learning materials. Since our last news podcast there have been quite a number of developments here at Radio Lingua. So much is happening we've decided to streamline our news a little and in addition to our news podcast which is released every month, we're now producing an email newsletter. If you'd like to sign up to the newsletter, visit www.radiolingua.com/mailinglist and add your details. In addition to keeping up to date with developments you'll also receive exclusive discount codes for our store. At the beginning of this month the whole team was down in London at the Language Show. We thoroughly enjoyed the three-day event and were delighted to meet many of our listeners who had come along especially to say 'hello'. Some of our listeners even volunteered to have their photos taken, so visit our website and click on our new Photo Gallery to see these. Our iPod competition was won by Hannah Bond from Staffordshire. Hannah wins an iPod nano preloaded with our entire library of podcasts. Congratulations to Hannah. This week, Kara and I were in Cardiff to collect a European Award for Languages in recognition of the success of Coffee Break Spanish. The European Award for Languages is a Europe-wide initiative supported by the European Commission which recognises innovative, effective and replicable approaches to language learning. The event was held at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, and the award was presented by Isabella Moore, CEO of CILT, the National Centre for Languages. You can watch the video podcast we filmed during the day over on our YouTube Channel, that's at www.youtube.com/radiolingua Finally in tonight's news podcast I'm bringing you news of a new development for Radio Lingua: we're launching a brand new podcast tomorrow - that's Monday 27 November - which will teach you basic Polish in short weekly programmes. And when I say 'short' I mean short! Here's Ania to tell you more about 'One Minute Polish'. And that's it for this edition of Radio Lingua News. We'll be back soon with details of our Holiday sale in the store. In the meantime, thanks for listening! Direct download: rln-news-071125.mp3 |

Mon, 8 October 2007 Radio Lingua Network News: 8 October 2007 Bonjour, Guten Morgen, Buenos días, Buongiorno! This is Mark from the Radio Lingua Network and I'm here to bring you some of the latest news about our language-learning materials. Today sees the launch of unit five of Coffee Break Spanish. In this unit, and indeed in this second 'level' of Coffee Break Spanish we're going to be getting into the language in a much deeper way. This will hopefully allow listeners to create the language more, to say what you want to say, rather than sticking to the phrases of previous lessons. Of course we've been teaching you all along how to change words to 'make the phrase your own', but we're going to be introducing some new concepts in this unit which will put you in control of the language you're learning. Lesson 41 introduces the concept of conjugating verbs. It all sounds a bit complicated, but we'll be taking things nice and easy as usual! You can subscribe to the programme for free at www.coffeebreakspanish.com. Since our last edition of the Radio Lingua News podcast, we've launched Coffee Break French. I was in Paris with our French team and along with my cohost Anna we released the first show from the Eiffel Tower. We also shot some video footage for subsequent lessons in Paris, and did some filming for a new project we'll be telling you about soon. We've been overwhelmed with the reaction to CBF: within a few days the podcast was the #1 UK Education podcast on iTunes - even knocking CBS off the top spot! In just over a week we've had around 50,000 downloads and the feedback is great so far. In a couple of weeks' time we'll be introducing the premium version of the programme, and you can find out more on www.coffeebreakfrench.com. I mentioned in our last news programme that we're reworking the store and the purchasing options for all our podcasts. We're still working on this and some other events over the past two weeks have delayed this a little. We're still hoping to introduce the new version of the store in a couple of weeks, so do make sure you're checking the Radio Lingua site regularly. Our problems of the last couple of weeks have included spam attacks on our CBS forum. We had been using a hosted forum since the early days of CBS, and this was possibly the reason for the problems. We decided this week to relaunch the forum as a generic Radio Lingua forum on our own servers, giving us more control over spam filtering. It also means that there's now somewhere for all our learners, so whether you're listening to CBS, CBF, MDPG, MDPI or any of our future podcasts and languages, there's somewhere for you to go and practise your language skills. Most importantly, the forum is a place where you can share your learning with other learners and help each other out. Unfortunately the new forum setup does mean that users will need to sign up again to the forum. It's a very quick process so please don't let that put you off. We look forward to seeing you over on the forum where you can practise your language skills and join the RL community. To access the forum, visit www.radiolingua.com and click on "Discussion Forum" in the menu. And finally, if anyone is in the London area at the beginning of November we're going to be at the Language Show at Olympia from Friday 2nd until Sunday 4th November. This is the UK's biggest event for language learners and teachers and you can get free tickets from the Language Show website at www.thelanguageshow.co.uk. We'll have a booth at the stand and we'll be showing off some of our new products and services. It would be great to meet some of our listeners, so come along and say "hola", "salut", "hallo" or "ciao" to us at stand 42. There will be more details about exactly what we're going to be showing off at the Language Show in our next news programme! And that's it for this edition of Radio Lingua News. Thanks for listening! Tue, 18 September 2007 Radio Lingua Network News: 18 Sep 2007 This is Mark from the Radio Lingua Network and I'm here to bring you some of the latest news about our language-learning materials. It's been a while since we released a CBS news podcast, and there's just so much happening just now we thought it was time to add this news podcast to all our feeds to bring you the latest information. This news programme will be added to all our podcast feeds to make sure everyone hears about what's happening, regardless of which language you're learning with us. There's also another reason why we wanted to release the news podcast today, but more about that in just a moment! First up today is the news that Coffee Break Spanish has won a European Award for Languages. The award recognises "creative ways to improve the quality of language teaching, motivate students and make the best of available resources". It's a Europe-wide initiative supported by the European Commission. The UK co-ordinator of the initiative is CILT, the National Centre for Languages. In total 15 initiatives were recognised involving language-learners of all ages. According to the judges, "the success of Coffee Break Spanish across the world shows that podcasting can promote language awareness and competence regardless of geographical location". Kara and I will be at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on 20 November to accept the award. We'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support of Coffee Break Spanish, and we're looking forward to the new season beginning in a few weeks. All the Coffee Break Spanish news can be found at www.coffeebreakspanish.com Final preparations are underway for our launch of Coffee Break French next week. The French team is heading out to Paris this weekend in preparation for the launch. The Coffee Break French feed is already live and you can subscribe to it in iTunes or via the website. Prior to the launch we've been releasing promo shows about Coffee Break French and there will be another one of these later this week explaining what the course will involve. Coffee Break French goes live at 18h00 on Wednesday 26th September when we'll launch with a video introduction from Paris. While in Paris we'll also be working on something else, but at this stage we'll have to keep that top secret! More information in the coming months! We're going to be making some changes with the Coffee Break Spanish premium service. Within the next couple of weeks we're going to be introducing a new way of accessing the premium materials, rather than using the subscription method. Current subscriptions will remain in place, and it will still be possible to sign up for 3 month subscriptions, but the new store which is currently in development will allow listeners to purchase whole units for one-off costs. We'll be able to accept payment by credit card rather than Paypal only, so hopefully this will be good news for many of you. The same system will be used for our other podcasts. Now for a quick roundup of where we are with our podcasts. CBS episode 40 is about to be released and features a discussion about languages and language-learning in Spain. There's even some Catalan thrown in in this week's show. We'll be taking a couple of weeks off with CBS while we launch CBF, but we'll be back with unit 5 in early October. MDPG is about to finish. We're going to be releasing the final materials in this series in the next few days. Our plans are to remove all the content of MDPG and MDPI from the feeds in November and then start the courses again with some updated extra materials. Many listeners have been asking us about higher level Italian and German courses. We'll be introducing a new German course in the winter and we're currently planning more Italian content for early 2008. We'll take this opportunity to mention that we're also developing short courses in other languages including Polish and Norwegian. These will be made available over the coming months and you'll hear more about them in future news podcasts. And finally... if any Scottish educators are heading to the Scottish Learning Festival this week then do come along to the Apple stand where I'm going to be demonstrating podcasting along with Kara. The Scottish Learning Festival is a major event in the educational calendar in the UK welcoming tens of thousands of educationalists from across Europe. Find out more at www.ltscotland.org.uk/slf. You can also subscribe to the SLF Connected Live podcast in iTunes. And that's it for this edition of Radio Lingua News. We'll be back in a couple of weeks after the launch of CBF. In the meantime, thanks for listening. Direct download: rln-news-070918.mp3 |

Fri, 31 August 2007 Coffee Break French - Promo Introduction Bonjour, bonjour! My name is Mark and I run the Radio Lingua Network, the podcast network bringing you language-learning on the move. We've now started the official countdown to Wednesday 26 September which is, in fact, the European Day of Languages. To celebrate this we're going to be in Paris launching Coffee Break French. Over the next four weeks I'll be publishing more information here on our podcast feed and on our Coffee Break French site at http://www.coffeebreakfrench.com. I'll also be introducing you to my cohost, who'll be learning with you. Remeber, Coffee Break French starts on 26 September. Direct download: cbf-00-promo1.mp3 |
